Instruction's on how to create a mood board

Creating a mood board is a fun and exciting way to bring your design vision to life. Whether you're redecorating your home, planning a wedding, or working on a creative project, a mood board can help you gather inspiration and organize your thoughts.

There are two main types of mood boards: digital and real.

The main difference between digital and real mood boards is that digital mood boards are created using computer software, while real mood boards are created using physical materials. Digital mood boards offer the advantage of being able to experiment with different design elements quickly and easily, and can be easily shared and collaborated on. Real mood boards offer a more tactile and physical experience, allowing you to physically handle and arrange the elements you've gathered.

Here are the steps to create a mood board:

  1. Define your theme or mood: Start by defining the overall look and feel you want to achieve. This can be anything from a specific colour palette, to a particular style or theme. Write down a few words that describe the mood you want to create.

  2. Gather inspiration: Start collecting images, fabric swatches, paint chips, and any other items that catch your eye and reflect the mood you want to create. You can use magazines, books, websites, and even nature to find inspiration.

  3. Choose your format: Next, decide if you want to create a digital or real mood board. Digital mood boards are created using design software such as Adobe Photoshop or Canva, while real mood boards are created using physical materials like paper, glue, and scissors.

  4. Assemble your mood board: If you're creating a digital mood board, start by opening your design software and creating a new document. Start by adding your background and the elements you have gathered, and arrange them in a way that feels cohesive. If you're creating a real mood board, use scissors and glue to arrange your physical items on a piece of foam board or poster board.

5. Experiment and refine: Play around with different layouts, colours, and textures until you're happy with the overall look and feel of your mood board. If you're using a digital mood board, consider using different filters, and adding text to explain your vision.

6. Reflect and revise: Take a step back and look at your mood board with fresh eyes. Is it communicating the mood and theme you want to convey? If not, make any necessary revisions.

7. Share and enjoy: Finally, share your mood board with friends, family, or your clients and enjoy the process of bringing your vision to life.

I use my expertise in design to help clients bring their vision to life. My process begins with creating a mood board to showcase the desired aesthetic and colour scheme. From there, I create 2d and 3d models to help clients visualize the space and make any necessary adjustments. I also provide a sourcing list for furniture, floor and wall coverings, and any other design elements needed. My understanding of spatial planning and installation ensures that each space is not only aesthetically pleasing, but functional as well.
